Artist Statement

My studio practice is currently concerned with the manipulation of language and text. It is interested in the representation of existence through language and textual form. I work to display the human condition in all forms, considering that which is mundane, and that which is intense. It is silently confessional: I bear feelings and experiences to witness. I softly touch upon the concept of voyeurism: being observed, and having the audience read, hear and see the unremarkable, the joyful, and the painful facets of life.

I explore text through the primary lens of 'Letterism', focusing on how language exists in space, and how the forms of letters and words may imply certain ideas or emotions. By doing so, words become unrestricted by their definitions; sign takes priority and a 'universal' language is forged.

I also focus on the cognitive process of experiencing life through the use of text written in my personal diary. I express this in artworks through a multitude of ways; logically sorting that which is painful, while providing a lyrical element to that which is sublime. Each presentation of text is intentional, as a visual mirroring of subconscious function.
